I joined a quilt guild, and it feels great! I've been quilting in isolation for so long. It can be a lonely business. I enjoy going to quilt shows for inspiration and had been considering joining a guild for a long time. There's a limit to what I can learn from books, Pinterest, YouTube and outright trial and error. Darryl and I attended the Marathon Quilters Guild show at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts in 2023 and they made a great impression on me. Quilts of all levels seemed to be on display, which gave me a degree of confidence that I might be accepted. And there were quilts of exceptional beauty, complexity and difficulty which I knew meant I could learn a lot from these people.

MQG is a small guild with big ideas. For their show last spring, they completed an 8 panel quilt depicting the Boston Marathon route titled "Go the Distance" with a separate panel for each of the towns the runners pass through. Over 40 artists contributed to the quilt, and the finished product is truly amazing. You can see photos and read more about it on their website here. https://www.marathonquilters.com/BostonMarathonQuiltProject.html.

Another large scale project is in the works for the next show in 2028. Stay tuned!
