Speckled Frogs

I was looking for inspiration after a period of quilters’ block and found this pattern in American Patchwork & Quilting magazine’s June 2025 issue. The pattern is called Leap Frog, and was designed by Diana Campbell. There was just enough challenge in the curved piecing and offset blocks, and I love how the blues and greens come together. As I worked on it, the children’s song “Five Little Speckled Frogs” was my earworm. I quilted it with wavy circles radiating outward from each lily pad, interrupted by the frogs and flowers. I plan to enter this in the Marathon Quilt Guild show in April. It's filled with 100% cotton batting, and is a perfect light weight quilt for cool Spring days and nights.
My sister says the yellow triangular eyes make them look like robot frogs. Maybe they're wind up bath toy frogs. Whatever floats your boat!
